For beginning students I require a guitar methods book. Young students like to accomplish finishing books and I find this is a useful means to measure accomplishment. On the first lesson, I like to help students create realistic, long-term goals for themselves. Then the student and I develop a plan to help them achieve them. Learning tools include method books, recordings of the lesson, and playing along with me. I also make solo pieces available, and encourage the student to participate in local recitals. The next chapter of my life was living in the East Village starting in 1976 and playing in jazz clubs, subbing on Broadway shows and later getting married and raising a son who I am very proud of.
