Lesson style is fresh, fun and includes an objective of what the student can expect to accomplish by the end of that lesson. I am enthusiastic and like students to come away from every lesson feeling like they have something to show! When lesson begins, we get right down to it. After older material is reviewed, we begin on the current lesson. Afterward, I ask my students to write down their assignment in their Assignment Log. Read More

I'm a firm believer in transparent and respectful communication. I work diligently along side the parent(s)/guardian(s) and student(s) to develop a positive rapport with them. I will remind them that the process of learning an instrument, and engaging in performance is a collaborative effort; it can be a ton of fun; however, it still takes, a lot of patience, hard work and commitment. Each lesson is goal oriented and recorded. Read More

i start beginning guitarists out with Hal Leonard Guitar Method Book One, because even if a player is not destined to rely on traditional notation, they still need to know the names of the notes, so they can communicate with others. I approach ukulele somewhat less formally, because chords can be played right off the bat--singing is encouraged. For bass students, ensemble is stressed from the get-go--bass is inherently a goup affair. Read More

Zen can influence your creative organization for both classical, jazz and popular music in whatever form's they evolve into. Zen in my opinion enables the plasticity of the brain to stay healthy, and can be stimulated by such exercises as tai chi which is considered by many as "moving meditation". If in my opinion again, the artist moves ahead in an open minded direction his/her art form will thrive. Read More

I started out at the age of nine playing the trumpet, and continued this for two years before switching to piano. Ultimately, I found my love in playing the guitar, and took lessons for two years. As time went on, I advanced as a guitarist and actually expanded into new musical instruments. I began playing in local rock and r&b bands at the age of 15. These were some of my most influential experiences, as they expanded my musical tastes into jazz fusion, swing, standards and Latin Jazz. After graduating high school, I attended community college and then went to New York to study jazz theory, where I played a few sets with Sweetback in 2000 that led up to being asked to play with the band. Even though the students often wanted to give up and many times gave up, I would not give up on the student, and would continue to not only try to make a valuable learning experience, but an enjoyable one that they would remember forever. Once I began to teach private lessons, I kept the same mindset. If the student is having a bad day and not soaking in as much information, I would make sure that there was something new they could perform to ensure they felt some sort of progress and enjoyed their time, whether is was a piece with a new note, or a new fingering or technique.
