My approach is highly structured. We might start with warm-ups. This can mean, for example, Hanon exercises on the piano. Or playing scales on the guitar. I like to set tempos and practice rhythm as we run scales and chords. Sometimes I use a beat box. I believe in getting the client playing. I play only to demonstrate. I can also be a side player, and play a rhythm part, if the client is playing a solo. Read More

I tailor lesson plans based on your musical background, if any, and your goals. I think of lessons as collaborative, working together to figure out what works best for you. I studied academically, and I also grew up playing in punk bands in basements, so I can offer advice and exercises from multiple perspectives. I use both approaches to music fluidly in my life and I think the way people relate to music is totally personal. Read More

I believe music is a gift that unites people together bringing out our deepest emotions that words cannot express. At the age of 5 I received an organ and from that point on I embarked on a long life journey to indulge and learn more about music. In elementary, junior high and high school I was involved in any subject dealing with music. I joined school choirs, orchestras, bands, marching bands, jazz bands, musicals you name it. Read More

I am an enthusiatic and experienced instructor and I want to share my passion with others. I graduated with my Bachelors of Music in Music Composition from Indiana University in 2004. In 2013, I graduated from the University of Redlands with a Masters degree in Guitar Performance. As well as being an experienced instructor, I am also a seasoned performer. I have an eclectic and extensive musical palette and have found myself performing in everything from classical guitar recitals as both a soloist and ensemble player, in pit orchestras, small jazz combos, folk music duos and pop music groups. My teaching experience dates back to when I was obtaining my Masters of Music Performance degree at the University of Colorado. There I served as a teaching assistant to my bass professor teaching private lesson in both upright and electric bass to undergraduate students. I also had to coach bass sectionals to the bass major students, focusing heavily on major orchestral repertoire and going into the detail of the minutiae. Read More

I believe in tailoring my approach to suit their individual needs, helping them overcome obstacles and fostering their strengths. This personalized interaction allows me to create a supportive and encouraging learning environment where students can thrive. The role of a music teacher extends beyond just imparting technical skills. It's about nurturing creativity, instilling discipline, and fostering a lifelong appreciation for music. Teaching provides me with a platform to not only share my expertise but also to be a mentor, guiding students on their musical path and encouraging them to explore their own artistic expression. It is important for me that the student is motivated and enjoys the lesson since they have to keep loving playing and practicing at home everyday to be able to progress properly. Learning music as learning anything is about exploration and repetition. Once you understand something you have to be able to do it correctly a few times before moving on. This can only be achieved if there is a certain amount of practicing involved. Read More
