I motivate my students by being interactive. With children who are new to music, I use my personal method, which is characterized by providing knowledge while playing interactive games, which helps the children grasp music-related issues. With the older students, I try to inspire them by playing duets, and placing emphasis on a variety of repertoire. I also emphasize the theory of music as an indispensable element of learning instrument. Read More

Ive been told I am a very encouraging teacher. My goal is to teach the student something new in every class. Lessons can focus on technique, performance, sight reading / singing, ear training, music history, music theory, composition, improvisation, fakebooks and more. Piano lessons can cover everything from how to sit at the piano to using rotational movements to get accuracy in large leaps. I focus on musicality. A student does have to be Lang Lang to sound beautiful. Read More

What advice do you have about practicing effectively?
There are certain steps to take in order to practice more effectively. First, practice the music by measure, and cut the measure in half if you need to. The more you cut those difficult passages of music into smaller pieces the easier it would be to learn. Think, bite-size mini measures. (This also cuts practicing time up to 50 % so practice smarter not harder! Practicing slow = faster learning. If something is getting frustrating just stop and go to something else. It's better to practice another piece of music than to stop practicing all together!
How do I know if my child is ready to start lessons?
You know your child is ready to start lessons if they bug you about it, you buy them the instrument, they start taking lessons and you don't have to bother them about practice! When a student doesn't give you a hard time about practice, you know they are ready to make the commitment to practice and learn their instrument. When they sit at the piano without you telling them to you know they have a passion for learning. And for younger kids such as toddlers and children ages 4- 6; when you see they look forward to lessons every week, they are ready to make the commitment to taking lessons.
When will I start to see results?
That's a really good question. The answer really depends on how much you put into this. Like anything in life, the more you commit, the more you get out of it. I've seen students take years and years to learn an instrument and I've seen students learn how to play the piano in two- five years. I've also seen students start playing a song in the first lesson! And then I have students come back to class with a lesson that hasn't been learned. This all depends on you. Practicing every week, coming to class prepared, being on top of your child's practice routine, all of these things are important.
Did you have a teacher that inspired you to go into music? How did they inspire you?
Yes, I had a teacher that inspired me. Honestly, it was my piano teacher. Before I took piano, my older sister did. Every time I accompanied my sister to her piano classes, I used to love hearing her teacher play. It wasn't long until my mom asked her if I can play also and, I soon started taking piano lessons. I used to love coming to piano class, and going to recitals every year. I also liked taking my piano exams at the end of the year because that's when I got my trophies and certificate. I still have them, now they're in my piano studio!
Why did you choose your primary instrument?
I chose the piano because, If you can play the piano you can pretty much learn any instrument you want. The piano is the foundation of all of the instruments. Theory wise, you can also understand theory concepts much faster because you can literally see the theory concepts right in front of you. And of course, I love the sound. Another fun fact, it makes it really easy to write music too. When I'm not teaching I like to write music in the studio. What I also like about the piano is that you can also solo. You really don't need anyone else to play the melody or the harmony, the piano can do both!
