I started teaching private guitar and bass lessons in my early twenties. As an instructor, I understand first-hand how important it is to have patience while learning because it doesn't happen overnight. However, with time, practice and consistency you'll keep the momentum going all the while achieving noticeable improvement. I get extreme satisfaction of bringing along novice guitar and bass players, as it reminds me of when I first started. Read More

I began teaching in High School once my skill on guitar and bass had surpassed my band teacher; I was tasked with teaching the 3 bass students and 2 guitar students in the program and preparing them for the end-of-year performance. From there I began an odyssey spanning two decades working with students from 7 - 60+ and from beginners to advanced players. I have taught bass and guitar as a way to keep myself engaged and playing/learning even after retiring from touring, and have been lucky enough to have some of the greatest students a teacher could ask for! I am a composer and music educator originally from the San Francisco Bay Area. At a young age I admired classic rock and by high school found a passion for heavy metal music. My love for music lead to my decision to study music in college and make it into my career. After earning my Bachelors and Masters degrees in Music from California State University, East Bay I relocated to Hartford, Connecticut to work on a doctoral degree in music composition. Read More

What Books and Methods I use depend on whether the student has a particular style in mind from the beginning of their studies. I will often use the Frederick Noad series of Books with students who know they want to study Classical Guitar and then progress to repertoire when the time seems right. If they aren't sure of what direction they want to go in I will use the Hal Leonard or Mel Bay Books to get them started, and when I start to see what direction they want to go in I will begin introducing different songs and repertoire to see what direction they seem to be headed towards. For beginners, I teach them basic exercises and the fundamentals needed to play their instrument. Once they have that down, we can talk about what repertoire to learn. Then, I will teach them the songs they want to learn, as well as any techniques they are curious about. For an intermediate and higher level students, the direction of the lessons is more in their hands. I teach them whatever they want to learn, while also making suggestions for things that they can improve on. Read More

As my student my goal will be to help you become a diverse and well rounded musician. For beginners I like to start with the Smiandl Method. This, being a classical method book, will give a strong foundation in technique that translates easily between upright and electric bass. With these building blocks firmly set we can start the real fun! For intermediate to advanced students the world is your oyster! Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
