I have been a musical performer for over 40 years and I bring the richness of that experience to others who share my passion for bringing beauty into the world with their music. Music is not merely something one does to pass the time or to make a few extra bucks on the weekends, it is a way of life. It set the spirit free and allows one to find their true creative potential. When students are being lazy I call them out on it by saying something like, "What is that?"  It shakes them up and makes them realize I catch every mistake.  It's done in a lighthearted way so that the students feel comfortable with me as I do not want to drive away students who fear their teacher.  Comfort and discipline are imperative to help them achieve their goals.  If a student feels comfortable with their instrument they are more willing to practice and achieve a higher goal of performance. I really covered this in the above information,so continuing in more detail,it really depends on each individual student, their level of ability and age that determine the course of study. It also depends on the instrument. Some instruments like piano, violin or viola, books are more practical because the music is notated. With most fretted instruments, music is written in tableture which was originally used for the lute and brought back i think in the 1970s.Its easier than reading music and is more practical for those instruments. Seeing students excel at their instrument of choice is most rewarding. My goal is to help my students understand music so deeply that they can play any instrument they want. They need to know two things about their instrument. 1.How the instrument is tuned. 2. How to get sound out of the instrument. Mistakes are a prerequisite for learning. They have to be made in order to learn what is correct. I teach my students to practice like they are performing. Read More

At Five years old, I began learning the piano. I learned to read music and play reasonably well. Then, baseball came along. As I entered high school, I learned the guitar, starting with a Silvertone guitar with the small accompanying amplifier. I had sung in the church choir, so my Boy Scout friends then became my band mates during the 60's In the 70's, I went on the road with a talented rock band opening for large acts including the Allman Brothers Band and The Who. I always teach proper technique, music reading, and eventually some music theory. If a student is just beginning, they need a method book to track their progress. I usually use Hal Leanord's guitar method. Besides this book, there should be a blank manuscript booklet for any extracurricular songs or concepts that aren't included in the book. Weekly lessons are ideal for building on the fundamentals, as any longer, the student may be memorizing bad habits or forget the proper way to play. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
