I'm a performer and educator motivated most by the flash of joy I see in students' faces when they first grasp a new musical concept. With a global perspective on music cultivated by my background performing Brazilian music and American Jazz since childhood, and further bolstered by a B.A. in Anthropology: Ethnomusicology from Ithaca College, I have been a full time touring musician for the last 10 years. I like to work with children of all ages and I enjoy helping them develop new skills, especially in the area of music performance. Together we will create a custom lesson plan including things like scales, etudes, solos, excerpts, and covers. I like to direct students to play scales and etudes with drones that can be found online or from an app. and can offer many more helpful practice techniques. I can teach classical bass, piano, and cello, as well as pop/rock bass, piano, cello, or vocal performance. As I have taught for many years, I feel encouraged and motivated when I can pass along my love for music. Nothing is more inspiring to me than to see someone's face light up when they pick up their instrument and learn. My teaching experience actually started with tutoring friends and classmates in math and occasionally other subjects. I find that most principles of teaching are cross-disciplinary though, and it did not take me long to feel comfortable teaching cello. I maintained a small personal studio for about three years, during which time I also had a temporary gig introducing music to children with disabilities. As much as I can obsess over mastering my own skills and hobbies, it somehow makes me even happier to see and nurture that growth in others. Read More

Beginner school-aged cellists:  I start this group off in the Essential Elements book 1 to ensure that the student is getting the fundamentals or theory and technique.  After the student feels comfortable playing with the bow, I add the Suzuki book 1 to the repertoire.  After completing Essential Elements Book 1, I then like to introduce the Schroeder etudes in addition to continuing to work our way through all 8 books in the Suzuki series.
