Originally from Anaheim, CA, I've been living in New York City for the past six years while completing my Bachelor and Master's degrees at The Juilliard School. I love exploring new creative ways to use the cello, and have taken influences from all sorts of musical genres, from pop to EDM to bluegrass. I have been teaching for over 10 years as a faculty member at community music schools, as a chamber music and orchestral performance coach, and as an adjunct at Purchase College. My students have been accepted to college conservatories with scholarship, have perform solo at Weill Recital Hall and Symphony Space, had many successfully audition for youth orchestras such as New York Youth and Westchester County Orchestra, and have had individuals receive score high marks at NYSSMA that earned them entrance to All-County and All-State. My teaching is strongly influenced by the Suzuki method and the teaching methods of Mimi Zweig and Susan Moses. I incorporate Dalcroze Eurhythmics and general music theory and ear training into each lesson. I believe that learning to play an instrument should be fun and enjoyable, while simultaneously stretching a childs musical imagination and growing their cello technique. For beginning students, I typically start with the Suzuki Method while combining it with the Essential Elements Method. As the student learns the fundamentals I gradually add scales and exercises to further develop the student's technique. After further progress, I begin to introduce solo repertoire and add other pieces. I'm fairly flexible on what pieces the student may play in the lessons, as long as the rudiments and classic repertoire are covered. Read More
