I have taught every semester I have been in college thanks to being a part of the Musicianship and Advancing Pedagogy--MAP--Program in the College of Musical Arts. I have been a band director for thirteen years and have much experience starting students on all instruments. The best part of teaching is seeing the look in my student's eyes as something finally clicks for them. Helping students grow into independent musicians is my main goal as a teacher. I do this through helping the students understand all of the moving parts of music, like the theory behind what they are playing, so that they are able to transfer their knowledge to whatever music they will work on next. Watching my students develop and grow as musicians is one of the greatest joys I have in life.  I use positive encouragments while also challenging students to continually improve.  Music making is not a race, so I allow students to develop naturally and at their own pace.  I try to inspire, encourage, and motivate through leading by example.
