I was born in August 1984 in New Halkidona-Athens, Greece. At the age of 7, I started my musical education by taking piano lessons. I did not finish my piano studies but the fire of music was burning strong inside me, and at the age of 15 i decided to study drums. My approach to teaching is to make it a fun and positive learning experience that they look forward to and stay inspired. Patience, encouragement and understanding of where the student is musically are crucial. I like to emphasize the idea that nothing happens overnight, only through effective practice and repetition. Having this mindset, they will no doubt see results in no time. I always like to establish a goal for each lesson, suggest cool drum videos on Youtube and make sure the student feels like they are free to ask a lot of questions if they aren't understanding something. I don't want to be too easy and I don't want to be too hard. We all have life events that keep us from practicing 16 hours a day. Also, you don't want to practice 15 minutes a week either. A good balance between work and play is needed. For beginner and intermediate students: I begin with the end; or rather, an end product. I ask questions like: What sort of music inspires you? What music do you love? What music could you not live without? What music do you aspire to make? Which musicians do you look up to? Depending on the answers, we can figure out a song / artist / style to choose as a goal together. Then I personally learn the chord structure and melody. (In the rare case that they are completely directionless, I'll choose a popular song that they can easily listen to on their own.) From there, I start teaching the fundamental techniques of the instrument, and continually refer back to our song, for why the technique is important. Read More
