I started playing snare at 10 and drumset at 14 focusing mostly on rock drumming. I played quads and quints in marching band in high school and bass drum in college. I then studies jazz and percussion at Grand Rapids Community College and Grand Valley State University. I then studied Music composition at University of North Texas. I played church drums through out all of this as well as with jazz trios, rock bands, and cover bands. Read More

I 1987 I graduated from McLennan Community College with an Associates Degree in Music Performance. If they are younger students, I'll use Mel Bay or Hal Leonard books, but sometimes I will make a custom book that builds with their development and learning style. I believe reading sheet music is important, but understand that being able to play along with other musicians using ear training and improv skills, as well as reading chord charts, is just as necessary.
