This will allow stick control and muscle memory to begin developing. As the beginner becomes more of a novice, I will introduce simple and repetitive songs and go over them as whole pieces. I do this by setting goals for the current lesson as well as goals for their next lesson. I believe that acknowledging the students accomplishments only makes the students want to progress further on their instrument. As students become more proficient in music reading and theory understanding, we develop an understanding of what the student would prefer to learn in regards to genre and focus on that, and the technical aspects of playing that lead to proficiency in that genre and style.
