In 2014 I graduated from Willamette University in Salem, OR with a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education. While at Willamette I performed with many ensembles including the Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, many small Jazz Combos, The Willamette Chamber Choir, Male Ensemble Willamette (all male choir), Voce Feminile (all female choir), and The Willamette Singers, a vocal jazz ensemble. For children and other beginners, I would start our lessons by encoding the basic function of music theory application of a drum pad. This will allow stick control and muscle memory to begin developing. As the beginner becomes more of a novice, I will introduce simple and repetitive songs and go over them as whole pieces. Those who are experienced in percussion, I will have them show me all of the rudiments they know, any complete pieces they have memorized, and have 5 minutes of improvisation. Read More
