I have been teaching students of all ages since 2010. I have been teaching both in my home studio and at the students home, I have also taught in Public Schools and in Music stores. My goal as a teacher is to get students excited about music and have them looking forward to our lessons together and inspire them to learn more and practice. The Trumpet is my main instrument but as a certified Music Educator I'm comfortable and highly qualified to teach many different instruments such as all of the Brass Instruments ( Trumpet, Trombone, Baritone, Tuba, French horn, Euphonium, Flugelhorn etc) and all of the Reed instruments (Clarinet, Saxophone and Flute) as well as Piano and Voice. For beginning kids, I usually start with three or four major scales and a couple of other basic routines to improve their knowledge of the notes and their tone. One book I like to use is Carl Fischer'sFlute 101: Mastering the Basics.Once the student seems to have made progress in these areas, I introduce them to one very simple melody from a well known song, such as O Christmas Tree or Fur Elise. Each student is a unique individual. No two students are the same, nor will any lesson be. I use positive encouragement and reinforcement when communicating to my students. This means identifying what they might be doing correctly, as well as what needs improvement in a supportive way. My goal is to build confidence and self-esteem in their music and life. I have enjoyed teaching piano, organ, and flute for over 30 years. My students have done very well in NYSSMA, Yamaha Electone organ competitions, recitals and orchestra performances. I have been performing in concerts in theaters, schools and stage since age 9. For the past 16 years I have been recording piano. organ. synthesizer and flute tracks in a recording studio. My first true teaching experience happened around the age of sixteen, which was by tutoring my siblings friends and preparing them for NYSSMA. I found this to be a truly enjoyable experience and realized that this was a passion that I wished to pursue in the future. From there, I enrolled in several music education courses when I attended Berklee College of Music. After learning from a variety of different music educators from various different backgrounds, I felt that I found my calling and knew that I was pursuing a career that I was passionate about. Effectiveness is key when practicing so I have always encouraged multiple practice sessions a day but smaller amounts of time (15-20 minutes) so that you can really improve and see changes in your playing and musicality. This also helps keep the student from becoming frustrated and developing a negative relationship with the piece, practicing, or music in general. I would like to assist and encourage my students to enter contests, recitals, and NYSSMA as well as compose their own material so they can stay motivated and feel accomplished while challenging themselves.
