I typically establish good posture and breathing habits (or bowing and fingering, if violin) first and then move on to essential warm-up exercises. For beginning students, I teach them basic chord structures and chord progressions. For intermediate student, I teach them scales, arpeggios and advance chord progression. And for advance students, I teach them different chord voicing, use of arpeggios during improvisation and modal theory.
