I have been playing guitar for 30 years now. I began performing with various bands at the age of 14. I am thankful to have had talented musical mentors (band members, teachers, songwriters, studio musicians, professional musicians) to learn from and grow with over the years. I have taught private lessons for 15 years. I emphasize the practice makes perfect rule of thumb. I tell my students you're not studio/performance ready until you can play through a song 10 times without error. I encourage improvisation. I always say if you can count to 4 you can start learning in less than 10 minutes. I stress the importance of practicing every chance a student gets. Most of my lesson plans are customized for each student, depending the style they are interested in, and the level that they are already playing. Generally speaking for beginners, I begin with teaching about the instrument (string names, frets, tuning, etc.). Then we move on to chords, starting with the easiest ones to play.
