I also like to acknowledge students improvements on things they have practiced. In my mind a student will never improve with intense mean criticism. I also work with basic fundamental structures that formulated the basis of my work with previous teachers such as Paul Kantor and Julia Kurtyka.. this includes basic practice exercises, and techniques, how to hold the instrument and how to shift etc. and how to sculpt a particular sound with the bow at various segments of a phrase i.e. bow distribution, bow speed, and the relationship between bow hold bow arm relation with the types of sounds in a particular palette). I emphasize the importance of proper posture, technique, the ability to read music, and knowledge of the fretboard. Accordingly, I always assign students exercises meant to develop and strengthen a variety of aspects of both left-hand and right-hand technique. The pace at which we move through the exercises is dependent on the student's own level of motivation and how much practice they do. I encourage students to practice daily for at least 30 minutes, but recommend more if they wish to see more dramatic results. Read More

For the past of ten years, I have been teaching classical piano, music theory, ear training, jazz piano, jazz history/theory, and k-12 level school bands including young winds, symphonic band and jazz band.
