For all beginning students I start by having the student set a goal. Some goals past students have set are learning to improvise, learn a specific piece, prepare for a musical competition/performance, prepare for a college audition or be able to express themselves through there instrument. As long as you have a goal with your instrument I can help you achieve it. I create lesson plans based on the students level to help grasp and improve fundamentals, technique and sound. Read More

My teaching style focuses on what most interests the student and draws them to the particular instrument. We explore different song styles and different exercises that speak to each individual student. I also believe in regularly providing constructive criticism and encouragement for each student's accomplishments. The more you inspire your student, the more driven they become. I encourage students to pick their favorites styles and songs to work on and we then take it from there and provide inspiration and a bit of fun! Read More

I have been an active private teacher and performer for 30 years. Even though I am based here in NY City, I have done concerts and taught lessons and master classes in twenty countries in the USA, Europe and Asia for concert series and festivals. Besides getting my Bachelors of Music from Ithaca College, I furthered my private studies here in NY and France. My background spans all aspects of the music business including commercial recording, theater orchestra, symphony orchestra section member, chamber music, artistic representative for leading flute companies and soloist for classical/pop concerts on cruise ships. Firstly, as with anything, I try to get to know my students and their goals. Once I know where they are at, we can devise a plan for particular repertoire to play and particular techniques to master. I'm all about having fun through the process of learning the piano--piano lessons can often be seen as these nervewracking sessions, I prefer to treat my lessons as collaborative explorations where both myself and the student learn more about music-making together. My first goal as a music instructor is to help my students find the excitement and passion for making music. I personally tailor each of my lesson plans to the student's interests and goals, and I truly believe that a love for making music is the necessary bedrock for a life full of music and a desire to practice and hone skills. As an educator, my role is to provide a safe and welcoming environment for students to learn and grow. It is important for learning to take place in such an environment so that students are not only free to be themselves, but free to make mistakes. This way, mistakes happen in a safe, forgiving environment where students can learn from them before they have to learn those lessons in the real world. Read More

What is your favorite style/genre of music to play and why?
All I can play, improvise, or imagine.
If you weren't a musician what do you think you'd be doing instead?
I am a scientist as well. Have PhD in pharmaceutical organic chemistry.
Music is a big deal of science, as well as art, and feeling.
What is your dream piece to perform and why?
I do perform classical pieces. My favorite is Bach. Play Well Tempered Clavier , Partitas.
May be one day I perform the Goldberg variations.
If you have a Music Degree, what is it in (Performance, Education, Musicology, Theory, Composition, etc) and why did you choose that degree?
I do have MS in Music pedagogy.
I love music, love kids, love to perform,
I also sing in choruses, professional and amateur. I did not chose that degree. The degree chooses me.
What do you think is the hardest thing to master on your instrument?
There is no single "thing" to master.
First, you set your goal, what is master means to you.
Than, it is a complex of dedication, persistence, and love.
It is also concentration, will to win, and agin LOVE.
"THE WINNER HAS IT ALL".
Do you use specific teaching methods or books? (Ex: Alfred, Bastion, Suzuki, Hal Leonard) Why did you choose them if you did?
Has my own.( based on Russian school of music) Consist of 5-10 lessons( printed), depending on student capabilities.
I prefer real methods, written by Bach, Schumann, Tchaikovsky, William Gillock, Scott Joplin, Glenda Austin and much more real composers of old school and modern. as well.
I also use Diller and Quaile music pedagogy, Denes Agay books.
if needed, prefer Alfred and Thompson books, as most authentic.
All tailored to student needs.
When will I start to see results?
May be right away, may be never.
Depends on:
-how much are PARENTS involved in your child musical activities: the younger your child is the more help he or she needs. TRY IT YOURSELF.
Did you have a teacher that inspired you to go into music? How did they inspire you?
My mother was my first teacher of simple song and dances.
Simple lullaby to a baby is a real inspiration that does magic to your child. It is much more than any "motivational talk
Why did you choose your primary instrument?
I did not pass the exams for violin for physical reasons (short fingers), and musicality. I do not have an excellent musical ear.
I was offered piano instead. My musical imperfections are greatly improved with years of of training in different musical disciplines.
However my hand problem was the one, that not allow me to continue as a concert pianist.
What musical accomplishments are you most proud of?
My accomplishments
-My former students, to whom I taught life lesson of freedom, freedom of expression in music. My recent students, to whom I continue to teach this philosophy.
What advice do you have about practicing effectively?
Practice every day. It could take any time from 15 min. to 15 h.
Fingers are not readily made for moving around a key board. Need to build up specific muscles and постуре support for your fingers.
How do I know if my child is ready to start lessons?
Just take your child to life concerts as much as possible, sing and dance with your child at home to any music available, or just to stamping, clapping, or using anything handy to beat the rhythms.
Have fun withy your child, making any live music...
You'll see, when to start lessons and on what instrument.
