I've been teaching music since high school. Throughout college, I maintained a small private studio of trumpet students. After college, I taught piano, guitar, and general music as a volunteer teacher in rural Malaysia for one year. In graduate school, I instructed two courses of ear training every semester. Nothing makes me happier than seeing a student develop the same passion for music that I have. It is very important to me that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting goals at each lesson, by a deadline, etc. Acknowledging accomplisments helps fuel a students desire to progress and makes them eager to learn more. Since I teach people of all ages, I have learned that I cannot simply follow one type of lesson structure.  During my lessons I learn about not just the talent a person has but also about the person themselves.  Therefore, each lesson plan is tailored specific to that individual.
