Instruments: Drums

I have three main books I use; these are my drum 'bibles'. Progressive Steps to Syncopation by Ted Reed, Stick Control for the Snare Drummer by George Lawrence, and Advanced Techniques for the Modern Drummer by Jim Chapin. I like to teach fundamentals first, providing a strong basis with which to expand your repetoire. Then I like to emphasize song work. The best part of drumming in my opinion is playing with other instruments, and in addition to playing with recorded music, I encourage my students to find other musicians to practice and even perform with. Instruments: Drums Latin Percussion

Typically, for students just starting out we would start on standard snare method, working out rudiments and gaining a sense of feel for drumming. This would eventually build up to working with the entire drum set, where we would explore several styles including Rock, Pop, Jazz, Swing, Latin and everything in between. Basically, I would try and find what the student is most interested in and build from there. Everyone wants something else, so it pays to be versatile. Read More

My success stems mostly from the fact that I make learning very enjoyable. I am here for the students and to assist them in studying the principals of music and their favorite artists. As a music instructor I set individual goals and tailor all lessons to the needs and pace of all students. I know how important it is as a teacher to pick up on when my students are having trouble or feeling overwhelmed. Read More

I love seeing my students gain passion and find success when they learn a riff or a chord, because I know how I felt when I did it. It inspires you to learn more. I like to use the method of telling them something they did fantastic, something they could work on and end on something they really did awesome on. I want to know what inspires the student and what they want to play. Read More

Instruments: Drums

When starting with a beginner student, I typically start by asking general questions about their interests and the music genres they enjoy. Then, we move on to the basics of maintaining proper form, understanding rhythm, and practicing simple exercises to ensure they start off with the right foundation. After that, we focus on learning the first few basic beats and ensuring they have a good understanding of how they are played. Read More
