I began teaching as a teenager when I was in Ann Arbor's psychedelic rock band SPROTON LAYER. I have taught friends and family off and on for many years. During the economic crash in 2009, I took a course on Teaching to understand different age groups and varied approaches in learning. Since then, I have taught steadily and found it very rewarding. One of the hardest things to get across to the Student is that the single most important thing to do is Play. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice
I have been teaching since 1998. I love making music fun for my students, while requiring students to learn fundamentals such as music theory and vocal health. Teaching has been part of my life for over 17 years and I hope to continue for at least that many more. I believe music is for everybody and that each individual can improve and learn if they care and make an honest effort. I also teach to the student's focus as the time: if preparing an audition we focus on that. Read More

For children, I do not use books or complicate bibliography to teach. I encourage children to discover music through their own curiosity. Using historical imagery and references of the natural world that surrounds us, is very effective way to help children understand music. Art contains emotion and intellect, so, my intention is that the kids explore that knowledge in a fun and joyful way. For adults, the teaching process is more focus to expand their abilities. I generally use Alfred for piano, both the children's and adult's versions. I use Hal Leonard for guitar. For both violin and double bass, I generally use either Belwin or Essential Elements. However, some students prefer to not use a method book at all and that is fine. Also, some have different method books they like, which is also fine. Read More

I love to see my students enjoy learning music and gain confidence as they realize their musical potential. This can only be accomplished in a safe and healthy environment where my students are able to express themselves without fear of rejection or judgement. At the first voice lesson, I have my students list their musical goals and what they hope to achieve. Through positive affirmation, I am able to help them reach their goals and develop a passion for music. Read More
Instruments: Piano Saxophone Clarinet Music
I have been teaching private lessons for five years now to students aged 8-18. I have also taught general music classes to 3 month-two year olds in an early childhood music class. My students have excelled through solos, ensembles, festivals, etc. I believe in consistency of instruction and positive reinforcement and criticism. I best serve my students by being adaptable to all of their needs. I am currently working with a student that has william's syndrome and we have a blast together. Read More
Instruments: Piano Guitar Drums
I am a versatile and engaging musician with 14 years of experience performing and composing in a wide variety of genres: Jazz, rock, hip-hop, folk, classical, electronic, electroacoustic, avant garde, ambient, soul, punk, etc. This is a resource that has proven to be invaluable in teaching students with a wide range of interest to help them develop both in technique and in finding their own voice on their instrument. In the past 7 years I have completed a Bachelor's Degree at McGill University in Montreal (Performance Jazz Drums), have performed at international festivals in Toronto and Montreal, have toured with various projects, scored two short films, and composed and produced two albums of my original music. *Note: I teach drums at all skill levels - piano and guitar from novice - intermediate.
