Hello! I am an active clarinetist and teacher located in the Twin Cities. I have just completed my DMA in Clarinet Performance at the University of Minnesota. I have a wide experience performing solo, chamber and orchestral music performing in various genras, from classical music to more modern and some types of folk classical music. After winning the LB Bank Scholarship for Young Musicians (Germany), I moved to Karlsruhe, Germany, to study with Professor Olga Rissin at the Karlsruhe Hochschule fr Musik. I've had the opportunity to perform with Minnesota Opera and will soon be performing with the Gilbert and Sullivan Very Light Opera Company. My musical life has been extraordinary. Born in Mpls. MN, I attended the Aspen Musical Festival before my departure to Vienna Austria for Master studies in Violin/viola and piano. Scholarship intended for one year ended up a 25 year tenure, teaching, performing in Vienna and raising a family. I returned to the US to become executive director of a music school in MN. As a teacher, I've learned so much from my colleagues and peers, but likely not as much as I've learned from my students. I've found that some teaching practices are outdated and I think I can bring a fresh and modern perspective to teaching music. I like to base my lessons around the student's natural curiosity and desire for learning music. Whether that be trying to play in the school band or wanting to learn a Led Zeppelin song, I believe that giving my students this ability to make their own decisions, helps them become more confident, motivated, and passionate about succeeding as a musician as well as in their own personal lives.
