I love the teaching profession and the process of instilling musical knowledge and passion in others. I first started learning music in middle school when I was a part of the concert band. I later went on to high school where I took piano classes and became my main instrument. I eventually graduated from Miami Dade College with an Associates in Arts degree in music education. I'm a musician with eleven years of playing experience. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage my students by setting realistic goals and proving homework after each lesson to perfect for the next lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a student desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the students, I can successfully tailor my instruction to his or her learning style. Read More

What I like to do in my studio is, set realistic goals for the student. I use "challenges" to help students achieve their goals. And reward them when they achieve them. I like using a lot of games as well to make piano learning fun. So I teach a lot of theory aspects using games with timers, and flash cards, dry erase dices and prizes when goals are meant. Some of my student favorites are the 30 piece challenge, Karate Scale challenge, speedy finger challenge and much more. Read More

My first music instruction job was at a summer day camp. I was 19. I taught group guitar lessons. I've been teaching private music lessons ever since. I, myself, had wonderful public school music teachers as well as private instruction in piano and voice. I teach my students what I was taught. No matter what kind of music the student wishes to learn, knowledge of music theory must be taught through the materials being studied. Read More

What is your favorite style/genre of music to play and why?
My favorite genre of music is classical. I think its so complex and beautiful. There's so much going on in Classical music that every time you listen to a piece you can hear something new.
If you play more than one instrument, how did you decide to start playing the second? (Or 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc)!
I started with Piano, then Violin, Viola, Guitar.
I would love to keep learning more instruments!
I began with piano since my parents already had one. I picked violin since my friend started taking lessons. Then Viola since my violin teacher played both and she inspired me so much. Guitar because I wanted to learn something new.
If you have a Music Degree, what is it in (Performance, Education, Musicology, Theory, Composition, etc) and why did you choose that degree?
Bachelors in Music and Masters in Music Business. I chose music business after doing an internship at my school where I helped organize the choir tour to Cuba. I thought it was so much fun and would love for that to be my job.
Does music run in your family? Tell us a little about your musical family members.
Music definitely runs in my family. My great great grandfather was the music teacher of the King of Egypt. And after escaping to Israel he opened up one of the first music schools in Israel.
Do you use specific teaching methods or books? (Ex: Alfred, Bastion, Suzuki, Hal Leonard) Why did you choose them if you did?
I use a mix of Suzuki and the O'Connor method for strings. This gives the student a background in both classical and folk music.
For Piano I recommend the Bastien method.
Why did you choose your primary instrument?
I started with piano lessons because my parents already had a piano. After that I wanted to learn violin because my friend was learning violin. Then I chose to start Viola (my now primary instrument) because my violin teacher played both and I was inspired to be like her.
Did you have a teacher that inspired you to go into music? How did they inspire you?
Finding a teacher that inspires and motivates your child to practice and love music is very important. I did not like my first teacher, but continued taking lessons. Luckily my next teacher was amazing. And I began loving to practice and starting learning things on my own. When I moved on to college to study music, I did not connect with my professor there, and almost dropped out and changed major. I lost all the love I had for music taking lessons with that professor. Luckily a friend of mine insisted I come for a lesson with her professor at a different school. I ended up transferring schools and got a Bachelors and Masters degree in Music studying with my new professor.
When will I start to see results?
This all depends on how much you are practicing. The more work you put in the sooner you see the results. Stay patient, sometimes you may not see the results just yet but your brain and fingers are making the connection and the results will follow soon.
What advice do you have about practicing effectively?
Look at the music and tackle the more challenging sections first. After you can play them well, up the tempo until you have it where it needs to be, then put it together with the next sections.
How do I know if my child is ready to start lessons?
If they show interest in the instrument and can focus and stay engaged for 30 minutes. generally around 5 years old is a good age to start your child in music lessons.
When did you decide to become a professional musician? Was it a gradual decision or was there a defining moment for you?
My violin and viola teacher in high school inspired me so much. Before I took lessons with her I didn't see myself becoming a musician. after 2 years with her. I knew thats all I wanted to do.
