It is important for me to understand what the student does not understand. The only help I may ask for is to make sure that practice does happen. I seldom ever say that practice should be timed, i.e. sit at the piano for 30 minutes no matter what. Instead, I assign a particlar song a certain number of times. At first, practice would probably take no more than 10 minutes. That time increases as the songs increase in difficulty, within reason. Read More

I have a passion for music. I started on the piano when I was seven years old and I've never looked back. After spending years in grade school, junior high and high school learning and performing in the band program on trumpet and euphonium, I moved on to play euphonium in The Most Exciting Band in the Land, the Ohio University Marching 110! My first teaching experience came in the summer of 2008, when I served as the Music Director at Camp Robin Rogers in Spencerville, Ohio, a program serving children with developmental disabilities. This wonderful experience reaffirmed my belief that anyone, regardless of age or ability, can learn to make music. Watching my students' faces light up as they performed the songs I taught them was one of the greatest joys I have ever experienced. Read More

My teaching style varies on my student and how they best learn. I like to make sure all three learning styles are covered in my lessons: visual, aural, and kinesthetic. It's also important that students learn at their own pace. I want to create a desire to learn and a love of playing music so making sure my student is comfortable and learning to the best of their abilities is of upmost importance to me! Read More
