The beginning students always start in a book, which is usually John Thompson's "Teaching Little Fingers to Play", or for the older students, "Bastien's Book for Older Beginners." As they move along, the students often have an idea of what they want to play, and often bring me music, especially the adolescents. I can determine more upon working with the student over time. I definitely customize my lessons for each student, and don't compare one to the other. Some of them have been my students from early childhood to high school graduation. Read More

Music for Little Mozart Series is great method to keep little kids interested and help to have fun while learning. The Music Workbook contains pages of coloring, tracing, matching, ear training and listening that have been carefully designed to reinforce the musical concepts introduced in the Music Lesson Books. Alfred Piano Method gives you tons of options for teaching the pianoincluding a basic course and a prep course that have supplemental books (recital books, technique books, and notespellers) that coordinate with them. I am a versatile music teacher. As an undergraduate at Ithaca College, I learned each band and orchestra instrument from the college instructor. For example, I learned to play the oboe from the oboe professor. We had to make our own reeds and use them to play our final exam. Through this rigorous training, I learned to play all major scales and high school level music on the flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, trumpet, French Horn, trombone, baritone, tuba, violin, viola, cello, double bass, and percussion. I try to keep the student as interested as possible, some have shorter attention spans then others and for them maybe i will do 30 minutes instead of 45 minutes. others who are really into it and do not want to leave i may teach them for an hour and that often turns into 2 or 3 hours of just jamming and having fun at no extra cost because without students a maestro is nothing but a musician playing music. i love to play along with students so they are more prepared when they go out and make music with others musicians and they can stay in time with a drummer more easily. I start by gathering information about a student's goals and inspirations, and prior knowledge/experience. From there, we develop a plan for warmup exercises, technical exercises, literature, sight-reading, ear-training and listening excerpts to be studied. I determine whether the student needs to begin learning primarily by ear or using some kind of written notation. We find a schedule that will work with both of us. Most students have a regular weekly time, but some students need a variable time due to their individual schedule so we work that out in advance. Read More

My goodness! Teaching for me began in classes of four to five kids, with no materials aside from our little keyboards and one music book. We had a blast there, and I look forward even more to being able to teach children and adults on a one-on-one basis, perhaps even one-on-two! I am a collaborative teacher, and will guide you through different lesson options and curriculum that best fit the student’s learning style and age. Read More
