I have been playing and practicing the drum set consistently since I began in my early adolescence. Over the past decade, I have performed with dozens of ensembles of varying styles from jazz orchestras to rock outfits to more off-kilter projects. I graduated from Temple University in 1988, with a Master's of Music degree in the area of Percussion Performance, and Jazz emphasis. As I’ve said above, as a teacher, I live for the “ah ha” moment. When a student is working on something, particularly something challenging, and they finally “get” it. Whether it’s a scale, a favorite song, a technique exercise, or a complex piece of music, there’s that moment. The moment it comes together and makes sense. It suddenly “clicks”. The student might feel bored in the beginning but I hope to show the student the fun in learning music and how rewarding it feels to learn a piece.
