Eventually we will move up to learning songs. As the student becomes more advanced, we will learn beats that are more challenging in a variety of styles, and gain independence and fluidity around the drums. We will learn rudiments and more finely tune their technique and learn songs that are more and more complex. For students at higher levels we can get into jazz drumming and rudimental percussion. No matter what, the lessons will be a great time and you can get better every week! Read More

My teaching style is very "go with the flow." Each day is a new opportunity to learn a little more about music and your chosen instrument. Each lesson is a time where we can delve deeply into one piece of music, or jump around to several different topics. Of course, there is always room for structure and I make sure that we stay on track! There are so many different aspects of each instrument to cover, but there no need to get bogged down with complicated acronyms and over complex methodology. Read More

My teaching includes all aspects of music; Musical theory, sight singing, as well as Music History. My teaching style allows the child to have fun while they learn their instrument, but I emphasize a strong practice regiment. Your child will understand that while learning music and an instrument can be fun, there will be some work involved if they want to become great. I usually use either the Alfred or Rubank method books to supplement a curriculum that I tailor make for each individual student. Read More

For younger students, teaching traditionally can be extremely tedious and they can lose interest fast. I teach songs to my students and I find lessons within the songs. Read More

More than a decade ago I began giving music lessons in both private and group formats. It was an unexpected "diversion," but a very natural fit! It brings me great joy to see a student enjoying the guitar, advancing on the instrument, and entering into that "fellowship of guitarists," which means everything from jamming with their friends, to being able to learn any song they want, to understanding a meme about the G string always going out of tune. I began teaching 2 years ago during my undergrad years and fell in love with sharing the joy of music and singing. As a young kid, taking lessons myself, I constantly was seeking to learn different types of music and always felt like I could never find the right teacher who could help me expand my musical knowledge in the ways I wanted. Because I have a background in instrumental music, I truly believe in the importance of a foundation in theory, ear training skills, and music reading. Read More
