Nothing makes me happier than having the opportunity to share my love of music and guitar. Upon graduating from Skidmore College in 2000, I was accepted to Florida State University to the classical guitar program under the study of Bruce Holzman. I feel my decision to simultaneously work towards two masters degrees speaks clearly for my motivation and passion towards music. While I focused on music theory/composition for my PhD studies at Louisiana State University, I continued performing newly composed works by graduate composers for the instrument. Read More

I've been a musician for almost longer than I can remember and teaching has been the greatest part of my musical journey so far! I've been teaching for 4 years privately and have been teaching through Guitar Center for 1 year as well as teaching through other private lesson applications. I've seen that students grow faster in places that they're more passionately driven, so I want to provide a space for any student to learn or take steps to learning what they want to on their instrument, while also providing structure and giving other feedback along the way. After graduation and a stint in the US army, I began teaching privately in students homes, and in my own studio. I taught composition, arranging, harmony, and piano at the Berklee College of Music for several years. I conducted a jazz seminar in Copenhagen, Denmark which included students from around the world. My mantra is to practice for success, not to do a certain number of hours or drills; this is something I learned after practicing technical drills for several hours a day. I remain partial to the Liszt technical exercises. I also continue to use certain exercises I find useful and not too time-consuming. The Art of Practicing contains much valuable advice for the pianist struggling to translate the passion of music into performance. Read More

I typically start violinists with the Suzuki method books and I start my piano and guitar students with the Alfred and Essential Elements books. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp on fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first performance. However, if a student isn't learning effectively from the book they were originally given, I either change the method book or compose my own exercises that I think the student would benefit from.
