Brianna S

Instruments: Piano Violin Harp

My teaching experience started in high school when I started teaching harp and piano part time. I had a close relationship with my music teachers growing up and I hope to establish the same type of relationship with my own students as I have with previous ones. It's also important that there is a balance between fun and time put in. Without practice, one cannot play an instrument well. I hope to encourage my students to practice so that they accomplish a level of success that motivates them to continue enjoying music for the rest of their life. Read More

Instruments: Piano Flute Keyboard

Developing tone needs to be paramount from the beginning, with using slower exercises to build the muscles and develop the ear. I will also have the student work with a tuner relatively quickly, but the ultimate goal is to develop the ear relative to other pitches, so I mostly work with drones playing in the background so that the student can play a passage with the root tone as a constant reference. Instruments: Piano

I'm a passionate instructor who thoroughly loves bringing the gift and love of music alive in students. In 2017 I had graduated with my Fine Arts in Music degree at Mchenry County College. I enjoy discovering the new sounds in music and writing when inspired. Currently I am apart of a worship team at my church and I play keyboard but I find I play mostly without sheet music. I love adding my own touch to what I am hearing and simply play from my heart. Read More

Instruments: Piano

I find that teaching Classical music, especially Romantic piano music, suits my personality and previous piano experiences the best. Even so, I make it a priority to introduce students to as many different musical styles as possible. Read More

Instruments: Piano Voice

Michael Aaron Piano Courses for children and adults had usually proven a good start for piano lessons. Sometimes, a student will need something other than a method book: I will then personally design a program for them based on the way in which they assimilate information and translate that into musical understanding and technique. It is normally a combination of internet information and my personal compositions. For voice, I use no specific published method course. Read More

Instruments: Piano Voice Violin Viola

For piano I use the Alfred series, and for violin and viola I use a combination of Essential Elements and Suzuki books.  As students advance I introduce additional solo repertoire.  My voice students learn from a variety of sources.  I usually start with a song they know well and work from there.  Students also learn a variety of warm-ups and sight-singing techniques.   Read More

Instruments: Piano Saxophone Flute Clarinet

I began teaching in 2000, and since then have taught saxophones, flute, clarinet, improvisation, chord theory, piano / keyboard, basic music understanding to young children in a classroom setting, and coached worship teams and group seminars to all ages. It is a great joy to see students excel and expand as they take what they have learned into their own lives! Without focus on achieving this, I have witnessed most of my school-aged students advance to lead positions in the ensembles they are involved with, as well as continuing with a passion in their gifts! Teacher In Spotlight

Lora M

Instruments: Piano Music Keyboard

How do I know if my child is ready to start lessons?
All kids are different, I had students who started in 4yo, but I would say for most kids 6yo is the best time to start paying piano.

When will I start to see results?
I would say first results you have to see from first lessons. Result is if your child would like to get back to lesson, if you child sit and play without your reminders...

Did you have a teacher that inspired you to go into music? How did they inspire you?
Yes , I did have a teacher who inspired me to go into music. It was my elementary music school teacher. She never forced me to do something, always was very patient and wise.

Why did you choose your primary instrument?
I choose piano because this instrument has sound as orchestra. Piano does need support - accompaniment instruments. I guess that Piano by itself is orchestra in good hands!!

What musical accomplishments are you most proud of?
My accomplishments is my students, taking places at competitions, simply enjoying to play new piece, having fun to perform at Christmas recital, picking very first familiar tunes:)

Have any of your students won awards or been selected for special honors? How have they succeeded?
Yes, I have a lot students who took places at competitions. They succeeded because several points connected, like practice, patience, persistence , family support, teacher's correct approach and of course drop of genius!

What do you think is the hardest thing to master on your instrument?
The hardest thing to master in any way is to be very persistent , keep positive way of thinking, do not give up, May the goal and try to reach it !

Do you use specific teaching methods or books? (Ex: Alfred, Bastion, Suzuki, Hal Leonard) Why did you choose them if you did?
Yes, I do have several my favorite teaching methods books, but its not my choice but my students just show interest to one type of the books and trying to to avoid another one.

What does a normal practice session look like for you?
Normal practice session has to consist of several part like technique part ( scales, chords, arpeggios..), working on at least two songs, and 5-7 minutes theory exercises as a study glossary, aural skills, sight reading...

If you have a Music Degree, what is it in (Performance, Education, Musicology, Theory, Composition, etc) and why did you choose that degree?
Yes, I do have Master Music Degree in Performance, Education and Theory. I choose those three branches of music education because of successful studying piano consist of great lesson/theory support for better understanding/concert performance.

What is your dream piece to perform and why?
I do not have dream piece, because all mu dreams already came true!! Everything what I wanted to perform I did it. Like G.Gershwin Rhapsody in Blue, F.Chopin Scherzo #2, P. Tchaikovsky Concerto for Piano and Orchestra. F. Lizst Sospiro and many more...

If you weren't a musician what do you think you'd be doing instead?
I do not see myself in another field. I like my job, it is not just source of income but my inspiration, my hobby, my joy of life.

What is your favorite style/genre of music to play and why?
I like to play different styles , it depends on composition, but of course my most favorite is Romantic Style with a lot of Chopin, Lizst, Mendelssohn and Rachmaninoff

If you play more than one instrument, how did you decide to start playing the second? (Or 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc)!
I am playing one instrument -piano, and trying to do my best to be perfect in my choice. Even if I would play different instrument piano would be my favorite>

Does music run in your family? Tell us a little about your musical family members.
My parents do not play piano but my daughter is great musician. I managed to instill a love to music. She is not a teacher but music is her hobby.

When did you decide to become a professional musician? Was it a gradual decision or was there a defining moment for you?
It was gradual decision. Even after very solid, 17 years of piano education I was looking for my own approach in teaching. And it took not one year.

...seventh scale degrees that are lowered down half a step. Adding a blue note to a pentatonic scale creates a pentatonic blues scale. Here’s an example in the key of C major:     Developed around the same time as ragtime, blues piano styles are built on sparseness, a lyrical approach to melody and improvisation. Many blues piano pieces were constructed using a song form called the 12-bar blues. The 12-bar blues is a simple chord progression using the 1, 4 and 5 chords in major and minor keys. Play By Ear: A Quick Guide for Beginning Musicians

...fundamentals that can help someone to play by ear.     Listening Vs. Reading   The main difference between reading music and playing by ear is process. Reading from sheet music basically means following instructions that have been meticulously written in order for you to understand and perform a piece of music exactly the way it was intended to be. To play by ear is a whole other ballgame. Playing by ear requires a musician to develop an incredibly important skill in music: listening. This is a skill that lone musicians in practice rooms who spend hours and hours on developing their ... Read More

...onto one track so that they may all be adjusted together, while maintaining their levels relative to each other. For example, once you are happy with the sound of all of the drums’ tracks together, you can combine them onto a stem and adjust the drums as a whole. Likewise you can group together every vocal track, guitar track, or only some of each.   It’s a common, and very helpful, practice to use many different speakers of different qualities and sizes throughout the mixing process. Every set of speakers will impart their own mark on a recording, and listening to the ... Read More

Intro to Music Theory with Emphasis on Guitar: Modes and Scales

...D D# E F = Minor 3rd   Modes Now that we know the difference between major and minor keys, and that scales consist of seven notes, we can start to talk about modes. Essentially, modes are the same 7 notes of a scale, but start on a different root note so that the following pattern emphasizes a certain tone or feeling (variations on major or minor). If we were to play a C scale starting on the root note C, it would be a C Major scale, also known as Ionian.     If you were to play a C scale starting on D, it ... Read More

This year we will be expanding our efforts to get professional photo/video done at select locations, and will be following up by profiling select students achievements at this years events. It is still TBD which locations may be selected (probably those with the largest programs), but further details will be forthcoming in May. It’s an exciting time, and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone perform coming up this May and June! ... Read More
