While I have taught violin lessons since 2010, my most recent passion for teaching occurred when I became an Adjunct Professor of Violin at New York University from 2016-2018. I held this position for two years while I was simultaneously completing my Masters degree, and maintained a studio of 10 students each semester. While at NYU, I taught a variety of students, from complete beginners to advanced violin players. For students that are new to music I usually start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, this book is really good to start to learn about music and the instrument, and then Suzuki method for repertoire. I also make it a point to observe how they learn and what is successful for them along with what doesn't work so well. I use educational tools such as videos and games to also teach, especially for the younger ones. This makes them enjoy the lesson more I've found. My teaching began simply by teaching fellow classmates in my school years but at the end of high school i quickly began to branch out to other students. By 19 i had about 20 students from the age of 5 all the way to age 45, from beginner to advanced levels. My teaching style is very patient and encouraging and I can tailor my lesson plans to suit each individual student. Although building technique and comfort are extremely important, I find that the most essential aspect of learning an instrument is to study the music that you love, and I'm definitely open to adding a bit of musical theory to every lesson if the student is interested. While the student is learning the basics, I also add pieces in different genres to the student's repertoire so that he or she can develop early familiarity with a variety of styles. Read More
