As early as I can recall, Ive loved teaching. Whether that meant being a teachers assistant or elementary school aide in my younger years, or as a music educator throughout and post-college. In high school, I was a Dance Captain for my schools competitive show choir, and would compose, arrange, and choreograph. While in college, I went to several music educators conferences, and was an active member of both the NAfME and IMEA (Indiana Music Educators Association.) By trying to find out what inspires each student, I can customize their instruction to help develop a passion for their instrument. Nothing is more rewarding to see a student enjoy and become a confident musician! I allow each student to move at their own pace, but always challenging them so they do not become bored. I introduce double stop positioning, bar positions, forms for 12 bar and 1-4-5- chord patterns in different styles of music (this can range from Beethoven to Jimi Hendrix). I then move to introducing songs than have the same core chords, but in different sequences, so students can see broader applications. I also have an favorite tool of mine that especially helps with theory -- a wheel that has the circle of 5ths carved into it, with patterns and relations between the keys carved into an inner wheel on it as well. I am new to Florida (which I love, by the way!) but spent many years teaching singers in middle and high school as well as adults with the Phoenicia International Festival of the Voice (opera) in NYS. My greatest performance memories include singing in the backup chorus for tenor Andrea Bocelli (for 20,000 screaming fans!), as well as Barry Manilow, Scotty McCreery, Josh Groban, Aretha Franklin, Reba and the legendary Yolanda Adams for "A Capitol Fourth" live on PBS for their 4th of July celebrations in Washington, DC. I believe that it is the teacher duty not only to impart the wisdom expected of them, but to also guide the students in their academic endeavors. While I understand that each and every student is unique in their learning and progress, I will always strive to push my students forward and sometimes out of their comfort zones as to be better performers, better musicians, and better people. I graduated from The Manhattan School of Music in 2014 but have been singing professionally since 2010. I am constantly learning new techniques to implement with my students.
