The study of vocal production, articulation, semantics, and syntax follows a logical, developmental progression that allows the artist finally to let go of technique and focus on the pragmatics of communication: identifying objectives, impulsively choosing tactics based on moment-to-moment sensory experience, and effectively acting in relationship with others. I value student diversity and I am particularly sensitive to issues of voice and identity. Each student is usually at a different level. For beginning students we focus on breathing, how to make sound that is free and easy, pitch, rhythm, tone and simple sight reading and songs. I make my own lesson plans according to each student's needs. If you already have a good basic knowledge of singing then we move on to improving tone, range, musical knowledge, dynamics and whatever help the student may need with high notes, low notes, fixing the gap between head and chest, belting, or any other vocal challenge they might be facing. I began my musical journey in East Orange, New Jersey, where Lauryn Hill and Whitney Houston also got their starts. In 2016, I earned my B.A in Music at Duke University, then went on to complete my M.M. in Jazz Studies in 2020 with focus in Vocal Jazz Performance at North Carolina Central University. At NCCU, I was a member of the award-winning Vocal Jazz ensemble that made it to the grammy ballot for best vocal jazz album in 2017. Read More

I’ve worked with people my age as well as individuals who were old enough to be my parents. Singers would join with no singing experience or ability & leave with new skill & confidence.
