My teaching style is fun and engaging. Music has to be a pleasure, both to perform and learn. In my classes even exercises are fun, interesting and stimulating; they're not just some boring tasks, but rather something that the student is actively interested in practicing and learning. I'm very positively honest and realistic with setting goals, and I strongly believe that there's room for improvement for everybody, each one with their own pace. Read More

For piano beginners who are children, Ibegin withthe John W Schaum method. For piano beginners who are adults, Ibegin withthe Beyer book for the piano. This is quickly supplemented with chord studies. For guitar students, we discuss what style(s) of music most interest them, and take it from there. For students who are not beginners, on any instrument, Ican pick up right where they left off. Read More

Since no two voices are exactly the same, I teach each student according to his or her specific age, needs, and goals. When teaching young or beginning singers, I start by working on foundational elements of vocal technique that are essential to healthy, beautiful singing such as posture, breath, support, and clear intonation. In lessons, my students and I use vocal exercises to strengthen the voice and build muscle memory. Read More

When I teach, I tend to forget the time. I always walk an extra mile, vocal lessons especially. I want my students to learn the basic techniques on how to use their vocal chords, where to place their voices, how to memorize, how to hold the mic, how to emcee, how to phrase, express, improvise which really needs time in learning. But after that, students will be more inspired, motivated, more eager to learn and challenge themselves to be better singers or performers. Read More

I draw inspiration largely from my Rudolf Steiner-inspired pre-college education and my Carl Orff-inspired higher education. Waldorf/Steiner education "emphasizes the role of imagination in learning, striving to integrate holistically the intellectual, practical, and artistic development of pupils" while the Orff Approach "combines music, movement, drama, and speech into lessons that are similar to child's world of play." I like to make my lessons engaging and fun. For students who are beginning their guitar journey, I like to start with the basic fundamentals of guitar, such as teaching them the body of the guitar (head stock, tuning pegs, string names, frets, how to hold and use a pick, etc.). We then will go on to learning how to position their fingers on the guitar neck and frets to play notes, learn chords and eventually, once they are ready, we will start working on age appropriate songs for the students to learn. I am a big believer in the breath. For a beginner I do a lot of exercises with breath connection to encourage healthy, connected singing. I like the idea that the voice dances on the breath and is buoyed and protected by that technique. I am also a very physical teacher, encouraging students to use their whole body in the act of singing. The voice is carried by the whole body and not just the muscles that are the vocal chords.
