I am a kind yet honest person. Therefore, I won't shy away from criticism, but will always do so in a respectful and proactive manner. Every student is different and I believe it is my job to adapt to fit their needs. It is wonderful to see students excited and prideful of seeing results from hard work. First and foremost, it is my job to provide a positive atmosphere a student feels comfortable in. Read More

I have an advanced level of experience in the following, Jazz, Chord Melody, Blues, Melodic Soloing, Harmony and Chord Theory, Ear Training, Fret Board understanding, and Songwriting. Most of this was honed while attending Musicians Institute. I was teaching on the side, but most of my time was spent writing, getting on stage, and growing within the industry. And that continues today. Today my living is built from teaching and working as a performing singer-songwriter throughout the city. Read More

I've found that being flexible and adaptible is most important to me, as everyone learns in a different way. I place a lot of importance on following student interest and goals as well, since it doesn't matter how great your instruction is if you're bored and don't want to keep playing. I think every student should get as much out of their lesson experience as they want, whether that means a more casual experience where you're not practicing too much throughout the week, or holding my student more accountable if they express more ambitious goals. My approach to learning an instruments is to have the students learn to play by ear first before they can start learning to read music. I find that most students are able to progress quickly because it frees them to focus on the playing the instruments rather than reading notes. I consider reading music like different subject that they learn later. Learning music is like learning to speak. First we learn to talk and then we learn to read and write. Read More

I work to determine how best you learn, and then we move in your direction. I am left-handed and have learned to accommodate as well as individuate. My idea about life is that anything a person wants to learn CAN be taught. What is required? A deep desire and patience. But there is nothing as exciting as playing an instrument! Or learning to sing, and feeling the power that comes when you express yourself. Read More

I am passionate about introducing music to young students as well as opening new doors to more experienced players. After studying Piano Performance at Biola University I went on the road as the guitar player for the rock band Fastball. I spent the next 12 years touring and recording in bands, honing my craft as a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer. In addition to teaching piano and guitar I now compose for television and film out of my home studio in North Hollywood, CA. Read More

I think that having a good frame of reference for what something is supposed to sound like makes being able to learn to play it a bit easier - no guessing! As progress is made we continue to learn more technique and theory, but always contextualizing with real word musical examples. I find that this not only helps the material stick, but also makes practicing much more engaging and fun! Read More
