I will generally start out with well known songs sung by ear, and then depending on the students level help them to learn to read music. Lessons should be positive experiences where students are nurtured and encouraged so that they look forward to their lessons. I like students to keep a practice notebook which we fill out during the lesson. Rather than being required to practice for a set number of minutes per day, we instead keep track of how many times an exercise or song is practiced. I'm a passionate musician and instructor that recently graduated from Cedarville University with a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance. I have been playing for 8 years and have put on three collegiate recitals. I have served in the Florida Youth Symphony's Flute Choir, and as the principal in the University Orchestra, Symphonic Band, and Flute Choir at Cedarville.
