Instruments: Voice
I focus on the voice first - not just repertoire, not just impending auditions or competitions. Building the voice - not just the performance to come - is an approach I have found to yield strong technique that can carry students far past any immediate need. Building range, teaching the function and physiology of the vocal anatomy (moreso as students age), and bringing students to understand their voice as an extension of their heart, mind, and body are all simple goals I have for each student. I vary my teaching methods according to the level and needs of each student. Each and every lesson is tailored toward the musical goals and dreams of the students. I believe in creating engaging lessons that students will enjoy but also learn a great deal from. For beginner students, I show them some fun ways of working on their breathing techniques, then I sing short melodies to them and ask them to sing them back to me, then I let them sing a little melody to me and I sing it back to them. I am a multifaceted musician, music producer, composer and instrumentalist with diverse musical experience spanning many genres and styles. I graduated from Bard College in 2016 with a degree in music composition. While at Bard, I was involved with the opera workshop and the audio engineering crew. I play six instruments and am able to teach most of them proficiently. Currently, I perform as a solo musician with a backing band at venues and clubs throughout the New York area, and also compose and produce music for film, TV, video games and advertisements. Instruments: Piano Voice
I began teaching voice and piano lessons in grad school and have been teaching for the past 5 years. I love sharing my passion for the voice as an instrument, and I feel that a strong foundation of music theory and keyboard skills is a must for vocalists. I enjoy incorporating all of these skills into lessons. I've also found that no matter what style and genre of music interests you there is a primary fundamental healthy technique as the foundation for all of them, and I find it ver exciting and thrilling to develop the skills needed to unlock this vocal freedom! I like to encourage to all my students to practice technique every day because consider that it will give them flexibility with the instrument. Also, I will stimulate them to find out the beauty, complexity and the appropriate interpretation of the repertoire that they are playing. The repertoire depends of student's level and their desire of improve. When I teach children I like to develop games during the lesson so they can have and learn at the same time. Read More

I have a tried and true set of vocal building exercises (also known as "warmups") that I use with all of my students. These exercises help to strengthen students middle voices, extend their ranges, increase their agility, and increase their stamina. I combine these exercises with carefully assigned repertoire to promote growth and functional freedom. I love to have my students sing in many different genres because our voices are muscles, and I believe that they should be cross-trained so one can be as versatile and flexible as possible. Read More

What advice do you have about practicing effectively?
I encourage everyday practice to achieve proper awareness of the technique. I always ask students to be able to feel more than think, because music is more a related to emotions than thoughts. I recommend to set up a practice time everyday, at an hour that is more comfortable for the student. Before start practicing, I advice to set up goals for that practice, meaning, what do you wanna accomplish during that session. This can be simple as "I wanna feel my breath." This goals have to being positive and directed to your main goal. Be able to recreate the feeling felt during the lesson and not the sound that was created. I recommend to record in a notebook what felt good about rhe practice session and what went wrong and did not feel good.
Why did you choose your primary instrument?
I come from a music family based of ear musicians. Everyone in my family plays the guitar and sings. At every family party, there is always the time to play the guitar and sing traditional Ecuadorian music. I decided to study voice when I was 13 years old, even though I had being studing music since I was 4 years old. I felt in love with the art of singing and performing in front of a big audience. I always wanted to communicate with people through music and with my singing I am able to transport people into a different place where a story is being told and is based on their own imagination.
When did you decide to become a professional musician? Was it a gradual decision or was there a defining moment for you?
I come from a music family so music was always around me when I was growing up. Everyone in my father's side of thr family are musicians and they all sing and play the guitar but none of them are professional musicians. My parents saw that I had music attitudes since I was little so they put me into a conservatory and see if I'll develop this passion. I loved music and the experience that I acquired at the conservatory was amazing. I was able to connect with people in different levels and have fun makong music. I decided to continue my career as a professional musician when I was 15 years old. Since that year I decided to be more serious about it and study hard to accomplish more goals and objectives. My decision hasn't change since then and I'm proud to say that I chose the best profession because is who I am.
