My experience in teaching started when I was in undergraduate school fullfilling my vocal pedagogy requirements and was instantly drawn to it. I have always been selected to be the section leader in choir or the vocal coach in my casts and it has allowed me to better understand how we learn as musicians and Ive taken that with me into my own private studio. Having just returned from 3 years performing at sea, Im looking to build my studio even more and am looking forward to bringing on new students of all ages, styles, and skill sets. Read More

I began teaching lessons in college, but grew my studio while I was preparing for grad school auditions from 2010-2012. Most of my students at that time were beginner piano lessons and I love to teach young children. I also greatly enjoy teaching children with autism. I have had success in combining my music education and music therapy skills to help students accomplish musical goals while also addressing behavioral goals such as increasing verbal or nonverbal communication. Working for a local drum teacher in 2005, I started teaching private music lessons in students' homes. From there, I took up residence at a local music store where I taught guitar, ukulele, bass, harmonica, songwriting, and music theory for the next fifteen years. During the pandemic, I added teaching virtually to my repertoire and have fallen in love with it. Personally, I started playing music because I loved exploring and learning more about the music I I was already listening to--and I desperately wanted to learn how I could create my own sounds. I approach teaching first and foremost from a mindset of love for music. I try to encourage the same passion for music in my students that I have myself. I believe in the importance of music in our society and in our lives and aim to relay that in my lessons. I also believe it is important to help each student feel important and respected in our lessons. I approach each lesson with energy and commitment to each student. Read More

I am a very detail oriented teacher. Once a student gets a new piece of music I like for them to gain a general idea of how the music goes. We then begin to do more specific work. Once the student is comfortable with the notes and rhythms, together break down each phrase to make sure the technique is consistent. Because I believe every student is different and may need to receive information in a different way than another student, I can tell a student what is happening technically or I can explain it in a way that Read More
