Each lesson begins with a chat while we gently stretch, breathe and prepare your body to sing. Singers are attached to their instrument and so getting your mind focused and getting comfortable in the singing space allows us to have as productive a lesson as we can. We work on vocalizes and technique next- to properly warm you up and strengthen your instrument. I always want to make sure my students can apply what they learn in my lessons to their participation in their actual choirs. If a student is preparing for a PMEA Choir audition, I will help them prepare the repertoire as well as provide a mock audition. If they sing in a church choir, we will work on sight singing hymns as well as working on any difficult literature. If they simply want to learn more about music theory, I will focus on that. One of my main goals as a teacher is to get to know my student, how they best learn, and what it is they love about music. My own love for music and particular bands/genres is what gave me the drive to keep practicing, and I bring this same approach to each of my lessons. Nothing makes me more happy than to see one of my students getting excited about something they are playing--and because of this, I structure my lessons to maximize the aspects of music each student enjoys, while making sure to incorporate fundamental aspects of technique and music theory regardless of the particular music we are studying. The first two things that I teach in my studio is posture and breathing. I analyze the posture of the singer and find several yoga postures that can help the student to relax some tension and to be more comfortable. I help students to be more aware of how the breath works in their bodies by using several repeating breath exercises and yoga posture. My vocal technique is based on YogaVoice, meaning that I used Yoga principles combined with Vocal Technique exeecises to sing more organic and to achieve an authentic relaxed voice. Read More

My goal is to foster a love of music through mastery, excellence and fun! I never want lessons to feel like something that has to be done, but rather, something to look forward to. I accomplish this by incorporating the interests of each student and including time in each lesson to improvise, create, or learn music they are interested in.
