Practice is essential to growth, but if a student does not enjoy their repertoire, they simply won't practice. Therefore, I work to find common ground with students when selecting songs. I will not force Classical or Jazz, but feel the technique these styles teach are invaluable. Each student will learn music fundamentals and basic reading skills. I feel knowledge of the piano is helpful for all musicians so in early lessons I will teach piano skills to aid in practice. Read More

I have played violin since the age of eleven. I began formal violin training with Ye Tao from 2004 to 2006. I later continued with Sarah Chung from 2008 to 2010 and Dr. Meredith Arksey in 2015. Additionally, I received vocal lessons from David Paul Mesler in 2013 and piano lessons from Yuka Sasaki in 2015. I taught high school band and choir as well as K-5 music education for 35 years. In the public school I have directed musical dramas and up to 4 concerts a year with students of all ages. In the classroom, I taught group piano, recorder, voice, group guitar, many different types of dances and ear training. I am a lyric soprano, and have been performing and teaching for the past 35 years. I have performed opera, oratorio, Gilbert and Sullivan and concert repertoire. My particular interests are early music and 20th century art song. I teach at several different schools, and enjoy working with ages 13 through adult. I trained originally as a classical guitartist, and take guitar students from age 10 through adult.
