My teaching goal is to encourage my students to be lifelong patrons of the arts.  I understand that every student may not be interested in a career in music.  I encourage students to set goals and work toward them.  These goals may include a scholarship audition, playing a piece in front of a family member, or booking their first professional "gig." My main goal is to provide inspiration and inspire a student ( no matter what the starting place) to pick a 'first goal." A typical lesson for me usually begins with whatever warm-ups and exercises I feel fit our goals, and a check in to see how you're doing and if there is anything in particular you want to focus on improving. Growing up, I always had the "teacher gene:" I was the little kid teaching all the other kids everything I knew. Tutoring came naturally, of course, and when I graduated high school, I gave after-class lessons at a school in all sorts of subjects. When I was in college, I started teaching voice and music theory in a volunteer program that helps high-school students from underserved communities.
