My Grandmother inspired me to play piano. My church taught me to sing. In high school I was involved in band and choir and was selected to tour Europe with a college group. To this day I work with foreign exchange students. In college I continued my musical studies although I majored in Public Relations. This allowed me me to take classes such as oral interpretation and work in radio/TV which enhanced my performing skills. Read More

My teaching experience dates back about 20 years. Since then, I’ve taught many levels and many instruments. I’ve taught students ranging from 18 months to 81 years old. I’ve taught many styles;including jazz, pop, and rock. I’ve had students to make videos and win several competitions. My favorite genre to teach is classical. With classical, you can pull all of the other genres out of it. When you learn classical first, everything else seems to fall into place. Read More

I currently use Piano Adventures Lesson and Theory books for beginner students. I have also used the Alfred series and really like the Finger Power series, too. Fundamentals of music theory is extremely important for new students of any age. I ask students to use the Music Tutor App to help them learn note names for the treble and bass clefs, and they learn by playing a fun game. We sometimes have competitions with siblings to see who can get the highest score! Read More

I will work with any materials my students bring to their lessons. I am familiar with many different series of method books (Faber, Bastien, Piano Town, Thompson, etc.), but will determine what the student needs based on their age and how much they know about music in general. Some school-aged children may have been exposed to music classes before they come to me. I am happy to hear about any school district that has chosen not to cut music education from its curriculum! I focus on indvidualizing the lesson to the student. Every student has different goals, dreams, and personalities. I typically use the Faber Books for piano, Hal Leonard for guitar and ukulele, and I work in sight-reading with my voice students. I also work in music theory when appropriate, and enjoy explaining the "why" behind how music works. I'm also a singer-songwriter and have tunes on Spotify Apple Music. I write and produce my own songs and have had my compositions performed frequently. Read More

I have worked with many music methods and numerous curriculums: Alfred, Faber, Piano Pronto, Hal Leonard, Bastian, Eric Steiner Rice, Faber, Dogs and Birds, Mr. Everybody's Musical Apt., Sandy Hoffman, Carol Tournquist etc. to name a few. I start out with a general introduction and progress to choosing the core curriculum according to the student's ability and desire in music. Music is a vast Science and lessons plans will be created around your goal in music rather than a rigid method, though we will adhere to curriculum to be sure that we are thorough and you receive a complete music education. I have general curriculum, genre' specific curriculum such as Jazz, Blues etc. as well as curriculum geared toward training Church Musicians. Read More

For me, the most amazing aspect of teaching music is to assist students in developing a musical identity of their own. Nothing could be a greater blessing than to experience students cultivating a personal and profound relationship with the magic of music firsthand, and to be there to help them to further their passion is a gift beyond what I am capable of expressing in words. By sharing the musical knowledge I have gathered throughout my life in lessons that are dynamic and adaptable yet consistent in terms of supporting students' growth, it is my intention to help to nourish students' own love for music, just as others have inspired me to do the same.
