I encourage these students to develop auditory skills through imitation games and improvisation. Other students play by ear and prefer to memorize all pieces. After completing my Master's Degree in Vocal Performance, I returned to UNM to attain a New Mexico Teaching License. I teach a number of vocal warmups, exercises to extend vocal range, breath support workouts, physical stretches and grounding techniques, and coaching to refine vocal quality. For percussion students, I teach hand exercises, foundational formal techniques, and traditional rhythms. I help students find repertoire they want to develop, and teach techniques for learning and performing music. I keep lessons tailored to each student's needs and skill level.  Students come to private music tutors for many reasons and some do not include a "passion" for the art , itself. Some wish to develop an appreciation for music to which they listen, to gain a greater knowledge of music literature, or to acquire skills for a passtime they find relaxing and enlightening.
