I generally split lessons into three sections, 1/3 with chords, 1/3 scales, 1/3 with songs, but every student is different, for example, If your goal is to strictly learn chords to sing folks songs over, I will emphasize more chord reading and learning time. If you want to play leads, I will spend more time emphasizing scales to help you learn how to improvise. There are also other excercises we can do like rhythm reading (just with clapping, no instrument) transcription/listening, and harmonic analysis. Read More

My teaching style is casual and professional, and you can expect low-stress top-notch musical education from me. Though I am lighthearted, I am serious and passionate about the music and inspire students with acknowledgment and praise when goals are reached. Musical accomplishemnts (learning to play real songs/pieces) are the best fuel for fire, and I push students to reach for more challenging and engaging performances. At the same time, music should be fun, and so should music lessons. Read More

My Philosophy is "learn how the student best learns". Expose all the students to note reading, ear training, youtube, music theory, improvisation techniques, composition, fingerstyle patterns, tablature, and singing, and then create a program that maximizes their potential and their long term feeling that music is fun and worth doing. Practice, of course, is important to learning any skill. But if a love of the instrument is there, practicing shouldn't be too much of a chore. I try to never give my students too much material at once, so as to frustrate them to the point of not wanting to play anymore. On the other hand, it is important to present them with challenges to keep them moving forward. First and foremost is to foster that love of music in them through enthusiasm and example. Read More

I have taught in one-on-one lessons, large group rehearsals, and everywhere in between. I started my teaching with a group of peers and professors while studying my undergraduate Music Education degree. We worked as a group to teach children ages six through 16 how to play violin/cello and perform as group. We then held a large concert as well as performed with the Sacramento Philharmonic at a Link Up concert. Read More

For kids I find that having a large quantity of music to learn at each level gives more variety and sense of achievement, so I usually recommend beginning students have multiple books to aid in learning. For example a young piano student will study from lesson, theory, performance, and technique books each week. This yields a well-rounded student who is proud of their achievements and eager to move forward. For adults I recommend a lesson/theory combination book at least to help with reading music. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
