For beginners, I typically focus on teaching straightforward open chords, along with scales and exercises to improve finger dexterity. Following that, I guide them in incorporating melodies or soloing over chords. We delve into strumming patterns and cover fundamental techniques for warming up. With intermediate players, my approach involves introducing chord inversions and delving into basic music theory. Topics include understanding how to stay in a key and identifying the diatonic chords within it. Read More

I have performed dozens of shows with big bands, jazz combos, rock bands, and choirs. I have recorded both professionally and in my own practice space. I have experience teaching young children percussion, as well as general teaching experience with children ages 3-8. I love setting a good example for young people and sharing my love of music with them. As an intelligent, hard-working, and personable young man, I believe I am well-equipped to the task of instruction. Read More

For beginners, I use handwritten tablature, online tablature, and Hal Leonard Instructional Books. For those interested in classical guitar, I use selected pieces from the Christopher Parkening Method Books. If you are wanting to learn for casual enjoyment, I will teach you basic chords, popular riffs and selected songs from classic rock, the blues, pop, folk or modern rock. I am a patient, passionate, devoted teacher. I always make my students understand the content of what I'm teaching by asking questions and slowly going over given material. Read More

I love to see students learn something and progress as the make music. Therefore, it is my goal that my student progresses at their own pace. I encourage the students to set goals for themselves and help them achieve them. Commendation is given as the student progresses and this encourages the student to dive deeper into his playing. Also, I try to see what the student is interested in, where her it be rock, alternative, blues, classical, or even jazz. Read More

In my teaching style I ask students to explore specific aspects and material that they would like to learn. As I cater to this approach, I compliment it by incorporating fundamentals, theory and improvisation into my lessons. I am a competent teacher and enjoy teaching and continually learning through music. I also enjoy helping students with song writing, arranging and singing as their interest warrants. The lessons are usually guided by the interests of the student based on his or her goals. Read More

I always say that rhythm is more important than the notes. Play the right rhythm and the notes will come instead of playing every right note while sacrificing rhythm. I encourage students to make their mistakes loud, proud, and in rhythm so everyone has a better idea of what needs to be worked on most. I also emphasize isolating parts to practice and working backwards. Example: play the last two bars of the song until comfortable with it, now play the last 4 bars, last 6, last 8...etc., whole song.
