My role as a teacher is threefold: to engage, to inspire, and to support. I strive to cultivate a relaxed yet focused lesson environment where students feel safe to express themselves musically and freely. As is often the case with classical music, strict or authoritarian teachers can stifle a student's creativity and passion for music. Every student has different strengths and weaknesses and it is not the role of the teacher to conform the student to their teaching style, but to conform their teaching method to suit the student. I feel each of my students are unique. I love watching my students' level of musical understanding progress. I love seeing the dedication and determination begin to heighten as the lessons progress. Within each lesson I point out areas that need to be worked on as well as areas of improvement. Seeing one's progress is the most important element to me for my students. Therefore, I like to record my students quarterly for a few minutes within a lesson to show the mass amounts of improvement they will accomplish. Read More

Learning to play the cello is hard work, but it is fun work! Playing music solo or in a group setting is a unique experience. All my students play chamber music along with their private lessons. I encourage my students to participate in our semi-annual recitals. Recitals are an important milestone to mark progress and share the gift of music with listeners. I love working with my students to find their own creativity in music. Read More
