For beginning students who are children, I typically start with the Suzuki Method and the Sassmannshaus Early Start books. As they grasp the beginning fundamentals, I incorporate the Alfred "My First Theory Book" series. As the students advance, we begin using Martin's "I Can Read Music," Rick Mooney's "Position Pieces for Cello" and "Fun in Thumb Position." My teaching experience dates back to when I was a senior in high school. I would teach local cellists ranging from Elementary School ages to College aged students. Outside of teaching cello, I spend my time as a Choir Director and a Religious Education Teacher. As for other music experience, I've participated in various orchestras, ranging from the New York University Philharmonia to the Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra. I love the challenge of teaching young students how to focus and concentrate, and I am always in awe of a child's ability to use creative problem solving. I currently work as a pianist for various Ballet companies and have studied music performance at the Juilliard School and San Francisco Conservatory of music. We will learn and explore the capabilities of the very large instrument by studying literature and repertoire that helped develop the instrument into what it is today.
