I am incredibly fortunate to have access to the resources at NYU and to love teaching music more and more every day: I have had practical experience in woodwind, brass, string, voice, and percussion pedagogy, as well as music in early childhood and for students of all abilities. My teachers include Jason Noble (instrumental conducting), Paul Speiser (choral conducting), Kim McCord (childhood/special ed music pedagogy), Ethan Hein (electronic music pedagogy), and Christopher Bush (clarinet performance). As an educator, I create a safe and healthy environment for learning. Realistic goals are set in consultation with students and are dependent on a variety of factors (work schedule, home life, travel, etc.) With consistent attendance and outside preparation, students will understand the principles of proper cello playing technique, gain the ability to read music notation, understand basic concepts of music theory, and learn how to apply practical and healthy practicing habits. My two rules of teaching are to be encouraging and be engaging. I don't want students dragging their feet as they walk to their lesson. I want them sprinting up the stairs and ringing my bell several times, because they are so excited to get started! I keep the lessons challenging in order to allow the student to reach their full potential. However, I like to keep things fun and enjoyable. Read More

My main foundations for my teaching are rooted in goal setting, collaboration, and engaging music learning. At the beginning of every semester, I like to evaluate the goals from the previous semester, talk about what progress has been made, and what the future goals are. I personally feel that many times students quit because they do not enjoy practicing at home week after week, so for me, collaboration either with students from school, other students in the studio, or in local music schools or orchestras is a must. When teaching children, I typically start out with Suzuki cello repertoire. I am also very serious about teaching physical concepts so that the student is able to express themselves through the instrument I believe that there are certain technical principles that must be communicated and I do my absolute best to make sure that the student understands them. As students become more advanced I then introduce repertoire that suits them and that I believe they will enjoy. Read More

I typically begin a piano student's first lesson, with the Bastien Piano series. This is geared at kid's, but, for adults, I use various other beginner books! In addition to this, I pride myself on teaching all students, how to best play popular music, using a full range of chords, not typically taught. I get students learning quickly and more importantly, correctly, so they are prepared out there, in the real musical world! Read More
