I help students set goals for themselves, and guide them to those goals through music I choose and music the students are interested in, which I sometimes let the students choose themselves. After I got married, I moved to South Jersey so I am looking for students around here. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. For younger beginners, I like to start with a method book such as Essential Elements to build the foundations of music and the instruments. After students have worked through this, we begin working on solo repertoire to get students excited to perform songs at their first recital! This is also a great time to begin learning about improvisation and creative playing, something that we all already have within us. Students learn the basics of improv through fun games, songs, and duets to build their confidence and hone their voice. Read More

My teaching experience began while studying at Indiana University, as I had the incredible opportunity to study pedagogy under Susan Moses and Mimi Zweig. There I was able to develop my skills as a teacher, and nurture my passion for education. I am a firm believer that given an encouraging environment and repetitions, any student can succeed in anything! Music has been a big part of my life for as long as I can remember! I started playing the electric organ when I was about 7 years old. I couldn't read music yet, but I would listen to my dad play and just copy him. When I was in 3rd grade I started playing cello... in 5th grade the trombone.... in 8th grade the drums.... in high school the bass guitar.... and later it was the guitar, violin, viola and ukulele.
