I've been teaching privately for about 15 years, starting when I was a student at Rutgers University in New Jersey. Since that time, I've taught students on Saxophone, Flute, and Clarinet at all levels, from beginners all the way to advanced players in high school. My focus as an undergraduate was in jazz performance, and I love to teach about jazz techniques, beginning to advanced improvisation, and group dynamics. For young beginners, I make use the method book that is being used at their school as well as supplying materials specifically for their instrument. As the student progresses, he/she will be introduced to solo repertoire as well advance method books for recital and competitive purposes. Clarinet: Any beginning band method book, Baermann, Klose, Voxman. At advanced levels I will use appropriate repertoire and advanced method books tailored to the student. Saxophone/flute: Any beginning band method book or standard beginning to intermediate woodwind book. Appropriate repertoire. Piano: I use most beginning methods, including Alfred, Bastien, Piano Adventures (Faber), and other standard piano methods. Each person is unique which transfers to a different learning technque for each student. I firmly believe in making sure each student learns at his or her own pace. If my student is having difficulty learning something new, I will ensure the student understands the lesson a different way i.e. singing a piece, clapping the rhythm, drawing pictures... etc. No matter the lesson, each student will have fun and exceed in accomplishing their goals.
