I discovered my talent for teaching during my college days where I found myself tutoring classmates who were behind in their classes. It was also around this time where I began giving music clinics to local high school bands. I enjoyed the feeling of helping others succeed and decided to start accepting private students. Are you a beginning student still learning notes? Maybe you're a seasoned player just wanting to get better? Read More

I am from Dallas, Texas but moved to Pittsburgh to study with Michael Rusinek of the Pittsburgh Symphony. I received my Bachelor of Music in Music Education with Teacher Certification in Texas from Southern Methodist University and my Master of Music and Advanced Music Studies Certificate from Carnegie Mellon University. Not only do I teach students how to play or create music, but also how to successfully set goals and achieve them. Every musician should have a goal in mind when practicing. Learning how to manage that goal can be tricky. I like to work together with students to take their goals and break them down smaller into more manageable pieces for them to master. This means that every student's schedule is customized to their learning. Read More

Weekly 45 minute lessons focus on tone production, technique, theory, and musicianship through exercises, etudes, solos, and duets. Students are always welcome to bring in music they are interested in working on, whether for school, contest, or just for fun. I welcome students of all ages and abilities who are inquisitive, persistent, hard working, and who put forth their best efforts during lessons and weekly practice. Though there are natural progressions to learning an instrument that I can set for a student, I always want to know what the student hopes to gain from studying the clarinet. Read More

I've been a professional music educator for over 15 years, teaching students from elementary school age to those in retirement. I love music and I love sharing it with others through performing and teaching. Watching my students' musical worlds expand is what I love best about this profession. I've played in just about every type of musical situation from orchestra, band, chamber music, and solo classical recitals to jazz bands, singer/songwriter, musical theater, world music, and avant-garde settings. This is especially important for younger students, as parental support and involvement are crucial for maintaining regular and focused practice sessions. Siblings are also welcome to be present during the lesson time, provided they are accompanied by a parent and do not cause any disruptions. Consistent attendance is vital for a student's progress and success. Please ensure that your student attends every lesson. For kids I find that having a large quantity of music to learn at each level gives more variety and sense of achievement, so I usually recommend beginning students have multiple books to aid in learning. For example a young piano student will study from lesson, theory, performance, and technique books each week. This yields a well-rounded student who is proud of their achievements and eager to move forward. For adults I recommend a lesson/theory combination book at least to help with reading music. Read More
